Hockey coach Gordon Bombay, best remembered as the triumphant lawyer turned leader in The Mighty Ducks films, has announced he has changed his name to Gordon Mumbai.
"I was born with a last name that is out of fashion, that is basically a representation of British occupation," Mumbai said. "To the citizens of India, I apologize for the poor Hollywood writing that would force me to make such a drastic change in my identity. But, I like the sound of Gordon Mumbai. It's like a reincarnation as the Hindus of Mumbai would say."
The name change by a character from a slightly obscure film is the second to be reported by The Underground Nincompoop in a matter of weeks after machinated creation Johnny 5 announced that he would be Jhonny 5 from now on.
The move by Mumbai could open the floodgates for more potential name changes from cinema characters we never thought would be referenced again. A source, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that former Ducks player Russ Tyler has been considering changing his name to Knucklepuck McFatty for much of his life. Perhaps Mumbai's move could lay the cracks to Tyler's metamorphosis into McFatty.
